1937 Seagrave

Below is the "new" purchase of an old fire engine for the guys from the big state of Texas. Originally seeing service in Sydney, OH, which was not to far from the Seagrave plant in Columbus, the remarkably original 1937 Seagrave appears to have remained with the department its entire service according to Brett Peabody.

The three new Seagrave owners are volunteer firefighters who all live in the same neighborhood and volunteer at the same fire station near Houston, Texas.  Their fire department covers a large area of North Harris County and they serve a population of over 80,000 people.  You can check out their fire department website at, www.kleinfiredept.com.

Co-Owner Doug is a geologist for a large oil exploration company, Mike is the football coach at the local high school, and Brett is an assistant district attorney.  The three guys found out a couple of years ago that they have long nurtured a common dream to own an old firetruck.  They decided to make their dream come true during the last holiday season and they have been working vigorously to find the "right truck" ever since.

Their Fire Chief has given them permission to keep the pumper in the engine house where they will slowly clean the old girl up and address whatever mechanical problems they find.  The previous owner, Chuck Buschardt, had the pumper in his shop for a lengthy stay and during that time he rebuilt the motor and transmission, replaced the windshield, refurbed the running boards, and replaced all the aftermarket switches, lights, and trim pieces with OEM parts.  He also went through the various mechanical systems of the truck to get everything working.  He even rewired the entire truck using the original loom.  About the only mechanical work left for the new crew to do is to get the 1250 g.p.m. pump working again.

The old engine is mostly complete with the exception of the hose reels. The Seagrave which shows two reels in the delivery photo, only has one now, and its incorrect. The headlights have really taken a beating over the years according to Brett and he was hoping someone could help in locating a pair.

"We three have a lot to learn about our new baby and we are anxious to get started!"

The Seagrave Owners Association wishes these guys the best of luck and look forward to updating the photographs as work progresses on the engine.
